OXFORD MONSTER XL – TOTAL LOCKDOWN

Motorcycle security chains are very old school security devices. You’d think in these modern days of electronic alarms and ignition cut-outs they’d be redundant.

You’d be wrong.

Here’s a typical inner-city, I got no garage scenario…

You’re asleep inside. There’s your bike sitting on the street. It has its alarm on. It has an ignition immobiliser. It might even have a proximity fob or a disc lock.

You’re sleeping peacefully, secure in the knowledge your bike has all the mod-cons to keep it safe. Besides, at the first sound of the alarm, you will leap through your bedroom window like a ninja, and with your trusty baseball bat deliver aluminium justice to the bike thieves, right? That’s the plan.

Except that never happens.

A ute pulls up. Two men heave your bike into the tray and drive off in less than 10 seconds. The alarm recedes into the distance as you sleep on.

Two hours later your bike has been broken down into its component parts, ready for selling on eBay in a few months’ time when you’ve forgotten about it. The cops are not even looking for it.

And you’re still asleep.

That just can’t happen with one of these monstrous Monster chains.

Firstly, your bike is chained to something. So it cannot simply be picked up and heaved into the back of a ute.

For that to happen, the chain has to be dealt with, and that is no easy task, for this is no ordinary chain.

It is 14.5mm-thick Ni-Cr-Mo alloy steel – which is highly resistant to corrosion and stable at high temperatures. It can be cut. But that takes time, laser beams, plasma guns, and gamma cannons. It will not succumb to ordinary grinders, chain-cutters or sledgehammers.

The lock, ordinarily a weak point and what thieves always go for, is actually stronger than the chain.

This double-action beast is made from Boron steel, baby. It has a yield point of 1400Nm (or 203,000psi). That’s four times stronger than your average high-strength steel.

It has been independently tested and did not succumb even after five minutes of grinding, sawing, sledgehammering, or bolt-cutting. It was even frozen with liquid nitrogen and it did not fail.

So if thieves have a go at the Oxford Monster, you’ll have lots of time to wake up, have a coffee, put on your ninja outfit, grab the bat, and go outside to say hi.

The Oxford Monster XL comes with three keys, and because Oxford knows you will lose all three of them at some stage, it offers a key replacement service. Just write down the number on the small tag that comes with the keys and you’ll be sorted with spares when you need them.

The chain is covered in a heavy-duty fabric so it doesn’t scratch your wheels to bits, and you can get it in three lengths (1.2m, 1.5m and 2.0m).

Just know if you’re riding along and it flies off the back of your bike for some reason, whatever is behind you will be destroyed.

This is serious, heavy-duty kit.

Sleep peacefully. Buy a nice bat and a sexy ninja outfit.
